2. CLOWN AND HIS SPONTANEITY: Pablo Gomis (SP)
What is the true difference between a comedy actor and a clown? And how to make people laugh without trying to be funny?
When you work as a Clown these questions appear sooner or later, and it is good to discover the answers by ourselves – before the audience does. To make people laugh with the clown, you do not need jokes, but you need to be bluntly honest. The clowning does not let you hide behind the makeup, quite the opposite – it reveals if the actor is sincere or not.
Through games, listening, rhythm and the clownesque logic, you will discover the possibilities that are presented to the Clown to seduce the audience with his brilliant stupidity.
Pablo Gomis learned by the best – people as Philippe Gaulier, Antonio Fava and Nola Rae helped shape his clowning. After his graduation he founded Les Bouffons theatre company and is leading it since for almost 20 years. In 2007 he joined Cirque du Soleil and works there as an actor and teacher. His main expertise and love is clownery and he is always looking to find the most spontaneous and sincere ways to express this art.
