DEKRU (UA): Virtual Reality

20.9. at 19.00 Tyl theatre, entrance fee: 250/200 CZK

Physical theatre, mime and digital technology

The project called Virtual Reality reflects on the influence of contemporary media on our lives. It is a witty, evocative and dynamic exploration of the relationship between the physical and the digital. Four mimes from Ukraine ask what reality is, whether it is real or just a digital simulation of it. And if this show was ultimately just an illusion, who would actually tell the others about it?

The three intersecting points of view include physical theatre, pantomime, and above all, virtual reality. It is already a common part of everyday life in the form of smartphones, computers, stories on Instagram or TikTok. Secondly, it is also a reality created by the language of the body, because pantomime makes the invisible visible, and thirdly, what comes to the mind of each individual spectator during the performance is also a virtual reality. And thanks to the imagination of the audience, the stage, although it remains empty, is filled with visually impressive images, mobile phones, social networks… And just like in an interactive game or an analog video game, the audience simultaneously becomes both passive and active participants in the action.

The Ukrainian group Dekru follows the line of Marcel Marceau’s imaginary pantomime. The list of achievements includes the victory at the Odessa festival of clowns and mimes, participation in the program Ukraine has talent or performance during the audience of Pope Francis… She presented her work in many countries of the world, for example in France, Germany, Polynesia, New Caledonia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland , Hungary, Romania, Switzerland or Italy.
