TRYGVE WAKENSHAW (NZ): COMEDIC ACTING

Comedy as a philosophy of life, slapstick in everyday situations, an uncommon sense of humour as the root of a long creative life… Trygve Wakenshaw will guide participants through his own alphabet of comedy, the vocabulary employed to overcome the daunting challenges of his own wacky ideas. Three days with this madcap New Zealander can provide a dynamic boost in discovering your comedian within and the humour in the world around you. A comedian need not go far for outlandish solutions, but the knack for making a situation his own can have a far-reaching impact.

This workshop is suitable for those interested in comedic acting in pantomime. A positive attitude towards humour is definitely welcome.

TRYGVE WAKENSHAW

Trygve Wakenshaw was born in New Zealand. He studied physical comedy acting at the prestigious Ecole Philippe Gaulier in France. He gradually developed his own style, which uniquely combines pantomime, physical theatre and a cheeky naïveté – on stage his style is wild and eccentric, making absolutely risky moves. Trygve is critically acclaimed, with the charm of his award-winning production lying in their “wonderfully weird idiocy”. His work is an amalgam of top entertainment, techniques of movement theatre and pantomime, and a sincere relationship with the absurd. Solo works include Kraken, Squidboy, Nautilus and Mad Office. A brief list of major awards includes Time Out Best Comedy of 2014, Edinburgh Underbelly Award 2014, New Zealand International Comedy Festival – Best Comedy 2014, Adelaide Fringe – Best Comedy 2015, Perth Fringe – Best Comedy 2015, Best International Act – Busan International Comedy Festival 2016…
