MARTIN PEŇA VÁZQUEZ & YANET GÓMEZ GÓMEZ (EC): MIME TECHNIQUE
The Ecuadorian mime, director and co-founder of Teatro del Cielo, together with Yanet Gómez Gómez, enrich their precise mime technique with cultural elements from South America, creating a unique language of movement acting.
The workshop highlights the body as the foundation of theatre. The principle of theatricality rests on the body, dramatically speaking the language of mime. The teaching approach is based on Étienne Decroux’s technique, providing both a vocabulary of expressive movement and an engine for creativity. Instruction will develop the technical skills and range of expression of the body, leading at the same time to the creation of original compositions in which the acquired skills are applied.
- Technique: study of the different body segments and their different combinations, study of marches and counterweights, study of muscular, musical and contextual dynamo-rythms
- Language: study of style figures, organic continuity, poetic lines, causality of movement
- Repertoire: modern, postmodern and contemporary approaches to mime.
The workshop is suitable for those interested in corporeal mime technique and its use in movement. The workshop will be of interest to all who express themselves physically, especially students of acting and the theatre arts, as well as professionals.
